With over 35 years of business experience in sales, management, and business ownership, Mr. Mittelstet specializes in mergers and acquisitions of hardware manufacturing and intellectual property-related technology companies.
John began to develop his strength in technology as a computer programmer and applications engineer, and continued with computer mainframe sales for IBM and follow-on positions in product planning and development at IBM plant-site laboratories. He left IBM after twelve years to help found Dastek,
a thin film recording head company, in Los Gatos, California, and later architected its sale to Dysan. After serving as founder and CEO of three more technology startups and managing their subsequent sale, John began his career as a merger and acquisition intermediary with the BTI Group in 1992. Since then, he has personally completed more than 150 transactions. As the head of BTI Group’s largest and most successful team of intermediaries, he has overseen the completion of hundreds of more deals. John can bring the power of this extended team to any transaction he manages. Deals get done.
John is a member of the International Business Brokers Association and its M&A Source group, and holds that organization’s Certified Business Intermediary credential. He is also a Director and a two-term past President of the California Association of Business Brokers and holds that organization’s Certified Business Broker credential. John teaches introductory-level intermediary classes for CABB, and is a frequent speaker and panel member at both IBBA and CABB conferences.
John holds a B.A. in mathematics from Texas Tech University and has completed the Presidents’ Class conducted by Harvard University.
